Although most insurance policies cover roof replacements and repairs from storm damage, you’re still responsible for the deductible. These deductibles aren’t cheap, and a lot of homeowners don’t always have that kind of cash lying around. Individual states may have particular requirements based on state and local regulations. This program is offered through a partnership between Home HeadQuarters and Onondaga County. We offer a Grant + Loan Home Repair Program to help Buffalo residents with health & safety projects. If you have a credit score of 620+, and have owned and lived at your property for at least 6 months, our lending staff will work closely with you to assess your eligibility for loan financing and partial grant funding. All grants are paired with a pre-approved loan through our Loan Services department and are combined with a lead-risk assessment and remediation. Home HeadQuarters, in partnership with the Tipperary Hill Neighborhood Association, is offering Tipperary Hill home owners home improvement loans of up to $10,000 at 3% interest, payable over seven years.

Home Repair Loans & Grants

This loan program can be combined with other loans and grants. Income-eligible homeowners who live in designated Onondaga County areas can take advantage of up to $20,000 for eligible exterior or emergency home repairs including grants of up to $6,000 or 30% of the overall loan are also available. Homeowners, or someone in the household, must have been impacted by COVID-19 in some manner (job loss, loss of income/work hours, or other measurable impact) to participate. Home HeadQuarters, in partnership with Onondaga County and Empire State Development Corporation, is offering Solvay and Town of Geddes homeowners home improvement loans of up to $25,000 at 1% interest, payable over 10 years. The loans can be used for interior and exterior home improvements.

Income-eligible homeowners may receive part of the loan as a grant. If you qualify, you will only have to pay back 50% of the repair costs. Homeowners who live in New York’s Lily Dale Assembly can take advantage of a low-interest loan of up to $25,000 for water hook-ups and other health/safety issues.

Buffalo & Erie County Home Improvement Fund

Radon testing required - any radon hazards must be mitigated as part of the $10,000. Property owners must be at or below 80% of HUD median income guidelines. Buffalo area Landlords, of one to four unit properties, can now access loan funds of up to $25,000 to address lead paint hazards and other health and safety needs in their rental properties. City of Buffalo Landlords can also take advantage of a grant of up to $5,000 or 20% of their total loan amount.

Blueprint 15 is offering landlords of properties located within the historic 15th Ward neighborhood in Syracuse, matching grants for eligible repairs. Home HeadQuarters offers financing to local, qualified investors who wish to purchase and/or renovate 1-4 unit rental properties located within Onondaga County.

Loans of up to $25,000 for exterior improvements or to address interior health and safety items at a 1% interest rate. The Buffalo & Erie County Home Improvement Fund provides homeowners in Buffalo and throughout Erie County, New York, with loans of up to $20,000 for home improvements and repairs. Replacing or upgrading your roof, vinyl siding, and doors and windows can give your home a completely new look. Switching to energy-efficient doors and windows will also help you save on monthly utility bills. If you live in a hail-prone area, upgrading to impact-resistant or class 4 shingles can lower your hazard insurance premiums and save on costly repairs. Amount of grant funding varies based on income eligibility.
